There are many important things I learned some things include:
- There are 3 main parts in grains the Bran, the Endosperm and the germ.
- Grains are in many popular foods, some are breads, crackers, biscuits, rice, pasta, cereals, porridge and couscous
- Grain based foods are important because they are great for energy, provide necessary vitamins and minerals and they help to keep you fuller for longer.
- Having a Grain based diet and with legumes, fruits and vegetables can help against heart disease, diabetes and some cancers and it is also great for long term weight loss.
- It is recommended to have at least four serves of bread and cereal a day for health reasons.
- The grains we most commonly eat include Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats, Rice, Maize and Triticale
- Eating two to three serves of wholegrain foods a day helps to minimise your chances of getting type two diabetics by 20-30% reduces the cancer risk as much as 40% and reduces the risk of heart disease by 20-40%
- A serve can count as either 2 slices of bread, a cup of porridge, a cup of pasta, a bread roll etc.
- Examples to include in your daily meals include low fat muesli bars, rice crackers, stir fry with brown rice, wholemeal sandwiches, toast (using wholemeal bread) etc.
- Grain based foods are important because they contain protein. Protein is important because it helps to repair missiles and body tissues as well as it is important for growth.
